2020 Bakersfield Walk Like MADD Event Held Virtually This Year
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Bakersfield 2020 Walk Like MADD event will be held virtually this year under the hashtag #OneMADDCalifornia. The event aims to end the 100% preventable crime of drinking while driving.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, MADD California has lost over 80% of its annual revenue, forcing cuts across the board. These cuts to the budget disrupt many of the grassroots programs and services the organization offers. The worst part of all this is that drunk driving continues to ravage the state regardless of the financial state of one organization fighting the problem.
To help, please consider participating in the virtual Walk Like MADD event this year. Every penny helps.
“Now more than ever, our community needs to come together in the fight against impaired driving. The pandemic has not put a stop to DUI crashes in Kern County, and victims still need help. Join us, surviving victims of DUI crashes, families, and friends of deceased victims, local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors, first responders, advocates, and other community leaders and members to march, rally, and run for the cause.” – David Coh, managing partner at Chain | Cohn | Stiles
How To Participate In The Virtual Walk Like MADD 2020 Event
The Walk Like MADD event takes place during the week of October 3-10. Registration is now open, and the fee is $25 for adults and $20 for children. This registration fee goes towards your participation, fundraising goal, and a goodie bag containing a MADD mask. Please register at the Walk Like MADD website.
Once registered, you can participate in the 5K walk or run virtually by signing up as a “virtual walker.” You can also directly donate to walking/running teams rather than walk or run yourself. To participate, pick up your packet at a drive-thru event on Saturday, October 3, here at Chain | Cohn | Stiles, 1731 Chester Ave. (Time locations TBD).
For more information on the event, to register, or to donate, please visit walklikemadd.org/bakersfield today. Remember, every penny helps victims of driving under the influence!
