MADD Southern California Honors Law Firm Marketing Director With ‘Honorary Volunteer Award’

Chain | Cohn | Clark’s marketing director has been honored with the “Honorary Volunteer Award” by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Southern California Region.

Jorge Barrientos received the award during the 2023 “Tie One On for Safety” MADD Gala Awards on Nov. 9 in Long Beach. The award celebrates and recognizes “the remarkable contributions of individuals … making a positive impact in our community.”

The awards gala also kicks off the “Tie One On for Safety” campaign during the holiday season, which is MADD’s longest running and most visible public awareness project combating impaired driving. MADD’s mission is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking.

This is the second statewide MADD award received by a Chain | Cohn | Clark representative. In 2019, attorney and firm managing partner Matt Clark received the “Pursuit of Justice Award”. Similarly the event annually recognizes supporters of MADD Southern California, which also includes Los Angeles and San Diego chapters.

Below is a biography of Barrientos printed in the awards program:

Jorge Barrientos is the director of marketing and public relations at Law Office of Chain | Cohn | Clark in Bakersfield, Calif, an Advisory Board member for MADD Kern County, and planning committee chairman for the Bakersfield Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash.

Jorge’s involvement with MADD started 10 years ago when longtime MADD Kern County victim services specialist Carla Pearson approached the law firm to help organize the area’s first Walk Like MADD. Jorge stepped in as the planning committee chairman, and shortly after he was a part of a team that helped organize Kern County’s first MADD Advisory Board.

By sharing the stories behind startling local statistics – Kern County ranks near the top nationally for DUI arrests and crashes – Jorge and MADD Kern County volunteers were able to humanize the tragedies happening on local roadways. Those efforts have brought together thousands of local leaders, businesses, victims, elected officials, and community members each year to fight to end impaired driving through awareness campaigns, educational programs, and much more.

Together they have helped raise more than $600,000 in the last 10 years.

Jorge earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Chico State. He served as a reporter, writer and editor for The Orange County Register and The Bakersfield Californian. For the last 10 years, Jorge has worked as the marketing director for the 90-year-old Bakersfield accident and injury law firm.

Outside of the office, Jorge is involved in several other community service organizations including Hub of Bakersfield, Downtown Rotary Club of Bakersfield, Leadership Bakersfield Advisory Council, and Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Education Foundation.

When he’s not working or serving his community, you can find him golfing with friends, making new friends, and traveling the world with his wife Carla, 5-year-old son Julian, and 2-year-old daughter Gianna Sol.

MADD Kern County honored Chain | Cohn | Clark with a “Community Champion” award in 2018 for the law firm’s work toward raising awareness locally and helping victims.
